Studio exploration: concept, not client work
Architecture practice
A portfolio-led concept for a small architecture practice, where photography and a calm project index let the buildings speak first.

The brief
We set ourselves a brief common to small practices: the work is strong, but the website buries it under text and makes it hard to see the range of projects at a glance.
The aim was a site that shows the buildings at their best, makes it easy to browse by type or location, and gives prospective clients a clear way to start a conversation.

Design direction
Photography leads. Each project opens with a single full-bleed image, followed by a short narrative and a quiet index of facts.
The typography stays calm and architectural: a restrained grotesk, wide margins and a strict grid borrowed from drawing sheets.
Motion is limited to slow image reveals and a project index that responds to hover, so the pace feels considered rather than busy.
- 03Structure
Implementation
So far the exploration is a visual direction and the home page mockup shown on this page.
If built, projects would be managed as structured entries (images, facts, narrative), so the practice can publish new work without touching layouts.
Images would be served at responsive sizes with careful lazy loading, because photography-heavy sites live or die on loading speed.

Outcome
This is a studio exploration, not a client project. It hasn't been launched, so there are no results to report.
It gave us a tested pattern for image-led portfolios: a strong opening image, a short story and a factual index work better together than a long gallery alone.
